Snell SA-2010 Auto Racing Helmet Specification Information

As of the SA-2010 specifications, the Snell Memorial Foundation (www.smf.org) has changed the SA helmet testing procedures to more accurately account for the size and weight of the driver’s head. It is also important to note that the specifications between an SA (auto racing) helmet and an M (motorcycle) helmet have become more divergent, which is why RaceQuip will only offer SA rated helmets for use in auto racing even though some series, sanctions, or tracks may still allow use of an M rated helmet.The Snell SA-2010 design changes have allowed RaceQuip helmets to be re-tooled in order to produce helmets utizing ultra-modern production methods. Ultimately the RaceQuip SA-2010 spec helmets are lighter than previous models, have better fit and finish, and also have provisions for installation of a head and neck restraint(HNR) such as the HANS device.

The RaceQuip SA-2010 Full Face helmet is an all new design that incorporates prepreg construction based on steel tooling. In this process, the optimum ratio of resin is impregnated into the composite fabric (a combination of carbon fiber, kevlar, and FRP) prior to moulding. Next, the prepreg is forced into the steel mould using vacuum pressure, then oven cured to precise  thermal specifications. This manufacturing technique eliminates excess resin weight and ensures uniform shell thickness while leaving the outer surface smooth and blemish free. The shell is then mated to an expanded polystyrene (EPS) liner to create a modern lightweight helmet design.

The RaceQuip Snell SA-2010 Full Face helmet is loaded with many features you would expect to find in a helmet costing much more. These features include a lightweight composite shell, aluminum pivot kit with an adjustable friction lock, plus a silicone shield gasket to keep out dust and dirt. A wide eyeport provides great peripheral vision and allows for the use of personal eyewear. The distortion free low fog polycarbonate face shield is a full 3mm thick and comes with eight position, hand ratcheting tear-off posts. Of course the SA spec means that both the helmet’s paint and interior are fire retardant so the RaceQuip Full Face helmet is suitable for use in the highest forms of auto racing competition. The RaceQuip SA-2010 Full Face helmet incorporates a Kevlar® chin strap for strength, a comfort fit blended Nomex®  interior for great feel, and pre-drilled holes for easier installation of head & neck restraint anchors. The RaceQuip SFI 24.1 Full Face Youth helmet is loaded with many features you would expect to find in a helmet costing much more. These features include an aluminum positive lock pivot kit, stainless steel internal hardware and vent screens, plus a foam shield seal to keep out dust and dirt. A wide eyeport provides good peripheral vision and allows the use of personal eyewear. The distortion free high strength polycarbonate face shield is a full 3mm thick and comes with adjustable tear-off posts and a visor strip. Of course both the interior and paint are fire retardant so the RaceQuip Youth Full Face helmet is suitable for use in auto racing. The RaceQuip Youth Full Face helmet incorporates a Kevlar® chin strap for strength, a comfort fit blended Nomex® interior for great feel, and a multi-port ventilation system to minimize fogging and help keep a cool head. To obtain the best possible protection, a helmet must fit properly, be positioned correctly on the head, and be securely fastened. The first step in the sizing process is to measure the circumference of the head by using a cloth tape (or a string). Take the measurement about one inch (2.54cm) above the eyebrows in the front and at a point in the back that results in the largest possible measurement.

Due to variations in head shape, heads that measure the same may not necessarily fit the same helmet size.

RaceQuip offers three different helmet face shields to meet any racing conditions you may encounter. From standard clear replacements to smoke tint for bright sunlight conditions and amber for nighttime racing, we've got you covered. All shields are distortion free 3mm high strength polycarbonate and include a visor strip and tear off posts. NOTE: SA-2005 (SFI 24.1) and SA-2010 Helmet Shields are different and NOT interchangeable.
